Additionally, regarding the discharge of storm water associated with industrial activity, applicability is based on SIC codes. As such, printers are subject to the general permit (rule 6 in Indiana), but may opt out through an exemption such as no discharge or no exposure.

Printers who practice good house keeping ( both inside and outside of their facilities) as well as eliminating spills from entering a storm system may elect to submit a claim (http://www.epa.gov/npdes/pubs/noexpoform_app4.pdf) of no exposure to the delegated state or EPA (non-delegated states). Indiana has delegated authority to administer rule 6 - storm water associated with industrial activity.

Operating as a no exposure facility not only benefits the facility through pollution prevention and awareness, but benefits the state regulatory agency and EPA through the shifting of resources to those facilities that need the help.
