I agree with the suggestions by Deb Jacobson and Dr. Henry Boyter on sending
a separate certified with return receipt letter for each permit, consent
order, and other readily identifiable requirement, but there are several more
that may not be obvious. For example, if the facility ahs an EPA ID number
for shipping hazardous wastes, then the agency should also recieve a letter.
In many instances, printers are not required to obtain wastewater discharge
permits, but the local sewer authority should also receive a letter. It may
also be prudent to attach the letter to any reports that may be required to
be filed such as quarterly air emission reports. Lastly, make sure that all
appropriate permits and other necessary documents have been identified. This
should have occurred during the due diligence aspect of the acquisition, but
it is always best to double check.
