Having spent six years working at a paper mill, I would discourage using
colored paper for animal bedding. Colored paper is manufactured using
either anionic direct dies in liquid or dry form. These dies are just a
part of the chemicals used in the manufacture of paper. If the paper is
neutral based, calcium carbonate, clay, titanium dioxide, as well as
retention aids and biocides are used. While paper may seen like a
simple product, it is very tough to manufacture and requires getting a
lot of chemistry correct to manufacture it properly. Just my
observations from working in the industry.
