The paper you are considering is heavy--for example, the Environmental
Defense Fund's newsletter is printed on paper that is 47 lbs with 75%
post-consumer fiber and is produced without chlorine bleaching (i.e., it
is "totally chlorine free"). While you may have problems finding a
suitable 47 lb paper, you should be able to cut down from 80 lb and still
maintain quality (lighter paper is not only better environmentally since
it uses less fiber, but is often cheaper too).

In addition to the paper, what about fountain solution? Does your printer
use a fountain solution without isopropyl alcohol or ethylene glycol
ethers? Does it contain less than 2% volatile organic compounds as applied
to the press?

Finally, do you know anything about the blanket wash used by the printer?
Are they using one with low-VOCs or low evaporation rate? For example, we
did a brochure with a printer using a press wash with an evaporation rate
of 2.7mm Hg at 68 degrees F.

I've been researching "environmentally-preferred" options for addressing
our
newsletter.
I'm concluding that inkjet printing with aqueous-based ink for a mailing of
4000 newsletters on uncoated paper, 80 lb is one of the better options.
Feedback appreciated. Thanks
