I was involved the development of a program just as you describe. It was
initially created for very small operations (9810 - century 3000). It was
expanded for medium operations. It tracked prepress work, production,
material, costs, pricing, etc. All the information was integrated to allow for
easy projections, estimations, and accounting.
The idea came from a number of generic non-industry software programs. I will
be glad to discuss this with you further.
