Wayne:

thanks for the research on flashpoint shift of DAA. One reply indicated that
decomposition can occur with contact to alkalies, and this may be a source for
our concerns.

Jeff:

I have initiated inquiries with a couple of sources re. your
question. The only info I have received back so far is from a
colleague who states:

"Diacetone Alcohol is made via an
aldol condensation of two acetone molecules. I have no stability
data at my finger tips but given the right conditions it could revert
back to acetone which has a lower flash point."

I understand this to mean DAA could theoretically
revert to acetone, which has a lower flash point. I do not know, but
hope to get more information on, what conditions might cause this to
occur.

In a solvent mixture, it is more common for flash point to increase,
as the more volatile components evaporate first.
