About four years ago, Chrysler had a project going with McGraw Glass
to develop a material that was lead free and only used solvents with a
flashpoint over 140 degrees F. The case study posted at:

http://es.inel.gov/techinfo/case/michigan/michcs14.html

says that they hoped to have a new material approved and in use by early
1994.

I am trying to find out the end of this story. I will post any additional
information I can find.
