This is a question e-mailed to me from the PNEAC Home Page. Anyone
have some input?

I'm working with small high-quality printer with sheetfed offset
lithographic presses. They are considering installing VOC contol
equipment to reduce the emissions of isopropanol from the fountain
solutions. I would like to point them to other alternatives,
including the use of substitute solutions or replacement rollers.
They've tried several, though, and report that the substitutes tend
to work only for a couple of months before a film develops. Adding
isopropanol back to the solution seems to take care of the film. I
understand that the factors that go into the effectiveness of
fountain solutions are complicated, but I'm looking for examples of
high-quality printers that have made the switch. Ideally, I'd like
to identify some technical reports or troubleshooting guides that
might summarize other printers' experiences.
Are you familiar with any information like that? Thanks for your
help.
