The Ohio EPA, Division of Hazardous Waste Management, has a vendor's list of mercury lamp and ballasts
recyclers throughout the United States. The list is incorporated in our fact sheet: "The Management of
Fluorescent Lamps and Ballasts in Ohio."

Virtually any type of lamp can be recycled, including incandescent lamps. Although some lamp
recycling facilities may not be able to handle incandescent lamps and certain mercury lamps that
contain stem glass. Stem glass contains metal filaments that are very difficult to separate from the
glass matrix.

States vary as to the regulatory status of discarded lamps. In Ohio, discarded lamps are not subject to
the hazardous waste requirements if they are reclaimed.

We maintain a wealth of information on mercury lamps and mercury-containing devices that we can
share with others.
