We use ferric chloride (1 % hydrochloric acid, 35 % ferric chloride and 60 % water) to etch stainless steel nameplates. I am trying to determine if there are any worker safety (respiratory) issues with this. We have tested for HCl with Drager tubes and found none. I have not found any way to test the air for ferric chloride. There is an acid like smell in the area, but it's not HCl.
Do you know what the accepted method is to test for ferric chloride in air?
