We replaced our solvent blend containing methylene chloride that was used for metering roller cleaner years ago. Mehtylene choride based metering roll cleaners had the somewhat unique combined characteristics of neither leaving an oily film on the fountain solution in the process of cleaning the metering roll and at the same time providing sufficient lubricity for a safe metering roll cleaning process (lubricity to avoid grabbing the shop towel used in the process). Our replacement blend consists of Lactol spirits, glycol ether PM, and Ethanol 200. We reserve this Special Cleaner for limited tasks, keeping it under lock and key. This blend has been a very good performer for us. Any local blender should be able to provide this blend, or one might look for a commercially available product from one of the graphic arts suppliers.
