The days of heavy metals and serious health hazards associated with printing inks are gone. The pigments are organic and though they contain metal "compounds" I am not aware of any serious risk to health or environment. PNEAC was recently quoted in an article published in the Chicago Tribune regarding using newsprint for mulch. I suggest you refer to that article available on their web site - Newspapers are no danger in the garden [Northwest Final , NW Edition] Beth Botts, Tribune staff reporter; Chicago Tribune; Nov 11, 2001; pg. 4 http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/chicagotribune/
