Depending on the substrate the recommendations for reducing VOC emissions are to utilize water based inks (if feasible), install enclosed doctor blade systems to reduce fugitive emissions, and select low vapor pressure (high VOC) or low VOC cleaning products. Low VOC cleaning products may not perform as well as what the printer expects, and therefore low vapor pressure (Less than 10mm Hg and 30 C) is a better option. If film residue is a problem when using the alternative solvent products review the MSDS to identify whether the product has NMP. This chemical is widely used and is commonly the culprit of leaving a filmy residue on the press parts.
