There are many different issues to be considered when dealing with solvents. Some deal with safe operation, others relate to the requirements of your insurance company and regulators. There is a great deal of overlap. Steps in the program relate to the quantities you handle, the containers you use, the areas in which they are stored, how you transfer them through the plant and, of course, what solvents are used. It is therefore extremely difficult to suggest specific steps that may be required. Our program varies through our various plants based on their size, which relates to the points in the previous paragraph. But they all have a commonality which is based on information garnered from four sources: OSHA & EPA regulations, and NFPA & FM Mutual (our insurance company) guidelines. Your local fire department, who might have inspection opportunities, or city codes may be additional sources of information. Mike Rogovein
