I am a Screen Printer (Large format up to 4' x 8') who has dealt with this problem. Some things we have done is mix our extra inks together to use as black. One important thing to remember is to keep the inks seperated by type. We also reduced our vendors to one or two main suppliers instead of ordering for the job. There is no way you will be able to use just PMS colors. The customer demands the colors to match and if you can't they will go somewhere else. Unless there is a change in their mind set. We installed an automatic ink dispensing system this year that can adjust old inks to a new color if you have marked down the information. It basically knows what you are starting with and will instruct you on what must be added to acquire the color you are looking for. May have to do some fine tuning. I have seen our waste inks drop by at least 50% over last year. Another option for excessive inventories you might try is to donate it to a school in your area that teaches printing skills.
