Sherry: In my 8 years working with and training the production staff of small printers I have found that traditionally the printers which utilize the small format duplicators such as the AB Dick and Multigraphics, have unfortunately left the proper daily maintenance of the press roller system to a weekly or monthly activity. The procedure for nightly cleaning the rollers only takes on average between 10 and 15 minutes. Little excuse is available for not cleaning on a nightly basis. If an over night sprays are being used, it only contributes to a higher cost to the printer in the long run. Over night sprays are sometimes effective to keeping the ink open on the surface of the roller, but the ink in contact with the roller becomes further embedded in the pores of the roller and there it dries. This causes the rollers to be replaced on a shorter time interval than normally required. Again, proper dicipline by the press operator and the proper nightly clean up is the key to a longer lasting roller system and less of a need for deglazers. There is also a product made by VARN - called "Ecoloclean QD" . This product has shown to work with small printers very well. If used on a daily basis (including night wash-ups), it has proved to clean the rollers more effectively and eliminates the need for de-glazers. Rick Hartwig GATF
