Per Wayne's comment about companies who recycle buckets, this question just
came up with one of my co-workers this week. He found the following web
site. Among other material recycling resources on this site there is one
listed for "Plastic Buckets".

Go to the upper right hand corner and click on "materials wanted", a
subject search window appears with an arrow. Select "plastics &
rubber". Just below that a list of items will appear. Click down and you
will find a listing for plastic buckets. When you click on that, the
details of the recycling company who wants the buckets will appear. The
name is Florida C & D Waste Recycling just in case you have problems
finding it. There is no geographical restrictions.

I hope this is helpful!
