The quick and direct answer to your question is yes, "Direct to Plate" is the
same as Computer to Plate". Imaging plates in this manner usually involves
the use of a laser or a combination of white and UV light to transfer a
digital file (e.g., text and images) to a plate. The plate is images
separately from the press and then mounted on the press. There is an approach
called "Direct To Press" where the plate material is actually imaged while it
is on the press.
