Article Summary: Press Control System Reduces Waste
1.26.99

A lithographic newspaper printer has reduced waste and saved money
by using a computerized control system which operates five presses of two
types. Total waste produced is 1 to 2 percent less with the control
system, which adds up on large runs like a newspaper edition. Reduced
waste quickly pays for the system.

Dual controls, both on the press and from a central control room, were
found to be beneficial. Some corrections were best handed by experienced
press operators making adjustments on the press, rather than moving from
press to control room.
