Article Summary: UV Ink Handling Guidelines
1.28.00

UV-cured inks have the advantage of being virtually VOC-free, but their use comes with some unique safety requirements. UV inks contain monomers, oligomers and photoinitiators which are cured by UV emitting lamps. These chemicals may cause adverse health reactions if they are touched, inhaled, or ingested. Precautions need to be taken to avoid skin contact. Neoprene, polyethylene or similar gloves, protective clothing and safety goggles should be worn. If UV ink contacts clothing, remove the clothing before it soaks through. Skin barrier creams offer an additional layer of protection. Wash contacted skin with sufficient amounts of soapy water to remove the ink. If eyes are exposed, flush them for at least 15 minutes and seek immediate medical attention. Do not look into a UV curing lamp or at the reflector. Wear UV-shielding glasses.
