5.25.99

Computerized print job instructions can be included with digital image files. With appropriate integration of software, it is possible set up and control portions of the print press, such as ink keys, gathering and folding equipment, with this information.

Standardization of the instructions is crucial. The Corporation for the Integration of Prepress, Press, and Postpress, CIP3, is a vendor association which is seeking a standard which is understood by all component printing hardware and software. One standard can be included in PDF format files. All steps of the prefilghting process are included in this automation.

A CIP3-compliant workflow will reduce waste, repetition and downtime. With automation, several tasks can be performed concurrently and correctly the first time. One printer described in this story experienced a five minute and 50 sheet savings per short job.
