Computer-to-plate Survey Reveals Satisfaction |
7.6.99
A survey by the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation found that 97% of computer-to-plate
users were satisfied. CTP expectations were exceeded in over half of the categories asked,
including improved image quality, increased throughput and usefulness as a marketing tool.
The most pleasant surprise of surveyed users was in the area of reduced environmental
impact where performance exceeded expectations by 50%.
Image quality was the highest ranked performance characteristic of CTP systems. All other
ranked performance attributes were given positive marks. Implementation, on the other
hand, was rendered less effective through required, but not fully implemented digital
workflow and customer inputs.
The average payback time was 33 months, slightly above the 29 months advertised by
vendors, but considered reasonable.
The vast majority of respondants indicated that their CTP system has allowed them to
retain current customers and attract new ones. Almost all, 93%, indicated that they would
purchase CTP if they had to do it all over, and 79% indicated that they anticipated future
CTP purchases.
