Article Summary: A/C Motors Synchronize Postpress
4.28.99

DC motors can be replaced by A/C motors with flux vector or PWM drives which allow better synchronization between the motor speed and the line speed and thus better process control. This control allows for better slow line speed and start/stop performance than DC servos.

For binders, it is important to keep the device moving. If it is stopped, glue applied to one piece dries before the second piece is matched, resulting in wasted product. Better synchronization allows the binder to contine operation when the gather is stopped to fix a misfeed.

Additional production benefits arise since the A/C motors are sealed to exclude dust. This results in longer service times and fewer disruptions.
